"CGS shows exactly why they are still alive after so many years, they play at a fabulous high level and this album is like a storm in my head, taking over my brains and heart. With typical influences from the (Southern) Italian traditions, but also with sounds and rhythms from other mediterranean regions and Africa, they create a kind of Italian folk 2.0 and again they are leading the way to the young generations of bands and musicians. Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, triumph in the USA (Together with Jovanotti)… Interview to Mauro Durante

The band at the South By Southwest. The tour was backed by Puglia Sounds and globalFEST.

The band led by violinist and tambourine Mauro Durante, the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, triumphed in the South By Southwest. The band performed four times in the prestigious festival in Austin, Texas, which could boast billboard artists such as Prince.

Durante also performed with Jovanotti there. The Canzoniere is composed of Emanuele Licci, Silvia Perrone, Maria Mazzotta, Giancarlo Paglialunga, Massimiliano Morabito, Giulio Bianco. They have recently released the album ‘Pizzicata Indiavolota’ which includes the hit single ‘Nu Te Fermare’ which video clip was realized by the regista Edoardo Winspear.

Following their long tour in North America, backed by Puglia Sounds and globalFest, the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino is back writing on XL about a new trip to the States as they’re host of the South by Southwest festival in Austin.
